Valentine's Day is a day for romance. Traditionally a day when we hope to receive cards, flowers and maybe a gift from those that we love or admire. Cards are usually given anonymously. It's great fun to try and disguise your token of appreciation and maddening trying to work out who the sender of your's is. It is always a thrill to receive a Valentine from someone we have feelings for, particularly if it is a new potential relationship.

For this he was sentenced to death and while in prison he fell in love with the jailer's blind daughter (allegedly the power of his love restored her sight). Long-established symbols of love are hearts, red roses and kisses and traditional gifts of flowers, chocolates and perfume are given at Valentines. Heart shaped gifts or items decorated with Hearts are also popular. If you've been with your sweetheart for some time then you may be past flowers and chocolate and need inspiration for a more original gift. Heart shaped pottery or pottery decorated with hearts would be a long-lasting token. Your partner would think of you each morning as he or she sipped their morning tea from their Heart covered mug or serve a romantic breakfast in bed on Hearts pottery. You could fill a jug with flowers or add a personal message or their pet-name to a mug or teapot.

It is traditional to give your partners gifts for Valentine's but it's also a nice gesture to show your other loved ones how you feel about them on this special day. Secret cards to confuse your children (my grandfather always used to send me a card from whoever my love of the moment was be it David Cassidy or David Soul). Anonymous cards to friends, but with a clue that it might be from their best friend so that their hopes aren't raised too much, nobody wants to be cruel.

Surprise someone

I know we show our appreciation on Mother's and Father's Day but still, particularly if people are on their own, it's nice to feel that you are loved - send flowers to your mum or an "I Love You" mug to your dad. They won't expect it and will be thrilled to be thought of.

Restaurants are always packed on Valentine's Day - full of little tables for two. Your favourite local never feels the same on this night. If you are determined to go out together for a romantic meal why not try something different. What about a picnic (I know it's winter) but if it's a bright, dry day nothing could be nicer. You could take hot chicken or sausages, flasks of soup and a bottle of red wine. Find a sheltered spot somewhere beautiful and tuck in. You can always drop into the local pub for something warming once you've had your lunch.

Oh that heralded question:"Would I be happier with someone else?" Maybe, but I doubt it. Here's why. Forget not the benefits of the one your with my friend. That's it in a nutshell. Why is that so important? Sure, perhaps you could have more physical intimacy, more laughs, more happiness with someone else, but for how long? And when will that relationship begin to look like the war ravaged one you have now?? Soon my friends. Too Soon.

Remember when you first started dating your husband or wife. Everyone is on their best behavior, your looking good, your passionate, your making every effort to impress. Then seven years later you find yourself irritated by every single thing your mate does! How does that happen?

Well, I don't know. It seems though that I've taken my mind off of the dream a bit too much and have done a 360 and I'm looking too much at realities. I have a wonderful wife. No, I have a one in a million wife whom any guy would die for. Problem is, perhaps like you, I sometimes focus far too much on her negatives.

Another thing too, as a man, I have to be the one to initiate things, and I often forget that I cannot expect her to be the one to make the first moves when it comes to physical, spiritual, or financial matters. I have to be the first.

I share this article from my heart to those who are struggling in their marriage. Yesterday I told my wife I felt like two angels crossed my path. After a series of arguments yesterday I met a wonderful elderly couple who simply looked over at me and said: &quotYou really have a good life, don't you sir!"

I turned around and saw two pearly white smiles of a contented vacationing elderly couple. The man was wearing tan bermuda shorts, wire-rimmed glasses, and a big blue Hawaain shirt. The lady, his wife, simply smiled at me, a graceful lady with long flowing white hair. I replied, &quotYes sir, I do."

Believe me, you wouldn't be happier with someone else no matter how pretty, how passionate, or how handsome. Why is that? After time you will simply revert back to all your old problems and issues. Sure, certain areas may improve, others may improve grandiously, but sure enough, your temper, your upbringing, and everything else will show it's ugly face over time.

Unfortunately, I do speak from experience. I married twice in my life for the wrong reasons, one because I was in a hurry to get married, and the second, because of an solely physical relationship that lacked any substance at all. Finally, through prayer, and pre-marital counseling, I met the woman of my dreams.

Things are not perfect for me, and I'm sure many of you can relate to the feeling of: &quotWhy do I put up with this?" The reason you put up with it is because you made a vow and you did it with your heart, not just your ever changing mind.

There are many times in marriages where the other person doesn't give like they should. It's up to you to be the giver, and hopefully your mate will come along over time. Marriage counseling may help, but ultimately you're going to have to give your problems to God and be willing to change yourself.

A very good friend of my wife's, let's call her Kimmy, recently shared that she &quotput her husband's stuff on the doorstep" after nearly twenty years of marriage. She was frustrated and fed up. Long story short, he cried profusely, something he had never done in front of her, and she took him back.

She then went on to say that she had never let her husband love her because she had all these walls up. Then she said: &quotI realized I'm the one that needs to change, not him." I looked at my wife, had a deja vu, and thought-that's my wife too! Kimmy then shared that for the first time she is starting to share her love with her husband even after eleven years and three children! Who can truly understand the heart of a woman?

Kimmy and her husband went to a couple at their church who counsels marriages, they call themselves marriage mentors, and they poured out their problems for hours to this experienced couple. Kimmy said she learned more about marriage in those three hours than she had in her entire eleven years of marriage.

I've heard many couples at my church state that they are getting success by enliciting help from other successful Christian couples. My advice is to seek out a couple in your church or friends that you can trust, to help you move through the tough times. Stamp and seal them your &quotmentors" and stick to their advice like crazy glue!

Also, keep one thing in mind, Kimmy said it and I'm saying it now. You are the one who needs to change. Not your mate. You. Who out there would divorce a giving, loving, passionate, and caring wife or husband? No one I dare say. Become an extreme lover of your wife and perhaps you'll see as I have, that she'll never let you go...

If you're up for it, that's great. If you're not, then you need to get this out in the open as soon as possible and give your date a chance to find another bed partner for the night if that's all they're looking for.

That of course is not true at all. The definitions of beautiful, attraction, and sexual constantly change to serve the social order, and the connection between the three ideas is a recent invention.

Some psychologists contend that the disparity among the concepts of beauty, attractions, and sexuality is based on the premise that both sexes are inclined to physical or sexual attraction because women are able to view men just as men view women, as subjects for sexual and aesthetic evaluation.

In a survey conducted by an “evolutionary psychologist,” from 10,000 individuals who were interviewed, it was found out that men have high-regards to physical attraction in their budding sexual mates, while women attach importance to prominence, goals, and monetary sources.

No wonder why most cases of attraction are all based on sexuality and physical attributes. This is because men and women would rather have their significant others physically and sexually capable of giving them their necessities.

For instance, men are attracted to women who look good because this indicates excellent vigor and the capacity to produce offspring babies. On the other hand, women are attracted to men who look good because this indicates abundance in financial resources, in which, the ability to provide the basic necessities to their children is generated.

The point here is that both men and women may have their own basis for attraction but everything is generally focused on the physical and material aspects. This is because attraction is associated with the fact that the physical attributes motivate that part of the brain known as the “hypothalamus” that will produce different kinds of reactions from the body such as sexual arousal, increased heart rate, and perspiration.

I believe the most important aspect of active listening is good body language. Without effective use of your body language, no matter how good your questioning or other forms of active listening are, your intention to build a good relationship will fall through the floor.

Effective body language communicates an interest when combined with questioning. Face your partner and show the person you are there primary concern. Also make good eye contact. Screaming kids, noisy crowds, and football on the television are all distractions that will pull your eyes and focus away from what really matters.

The last of the three active listening skills I will discuss in this article is using summarizing. This technique is not known to many so chances are you do not use this skill. Even if you know of this technique, I aim to encourage you to pull it out of your communication bag of tricks to improve your relationships.

Summarizing involves rephrasing what the person has said in your own words. The secret here is "in your own words". There are around four summarizing techniques involving an emphasis on emotions, facts, and combinations of the two.

Summarizing plays a role in developing an understanding of what your partner is saying and develops a connection. It is a great technique to build intimacy in your relationship. I encourage you to even use summarizing in everyday social situations and conversations as it helps to build the connection.

The other person hears your summary of what he or she said and knows you understand or will then restate what you do misunderstand. He or she will also see you are interested because you are able to restate what was said. When combined with good body language, your interest is communicated the entire time during the conversation.

Active listening skills are an essential technique to develop if you want to build a good relationship. The listening skills are useful in more then just building intimate relationships as you can just as effectively apply them in social conversations.

In addition, combine effective questioning, good body language, and summarizing together and you will begin to use the power of active listening in your relationships. These 3 listening skills are a great start in mastering two-way communication to build great relationships.

The Power of Thought

A random thought, some musing or daydream, perhaps has no power. But give that thought the emotion of love or hate, and it immediately takes on a new form. It can raise our blood pressure, give us a heart attack perhaps, cause us to sacrifice or run away…these emotionally charged thoughts have power.

Natural and Super-Natural

In the natural world, the very atoms and even sub-atomic particles are being held together by the laws of attraction and repulsion. Remember however, the physicists remind that in the most basic form, all are only thoughts and ideas.

In the realm of what we call super-natural, the same phenomenon hold true. People meet, jobs are found, great discoveries take place just because someone seemed to be concentrating their thoughts.

Remember, your aim when using humour is to make her smile, laugh and relax. You should be able to quickly assess what kind of things make her laugh and adjust your humour accordingly. You don’t want her rolling around on the floor, crying with laughter.

Ever get a mouse in your home. They are big time pest. When you go to the store to pick out a trap to catch them, you will find all different types. No matter which one you choose, they all have the same premise. First, traps tempt the mouse into moving the focus of the mouse thoughts, from where it was going, towards the trap. And second, to give the hunter a place to make the trap so appeasing. Just add a nice chunk of cheese or bait in the right spot to seduce the mouse to enter the trap.

We humans are pretty high up on the food chain, but there is and has always been one enemy that has sought to destroy and devour us – Satan. If the devil can get you off of the path of God’s will at your workplace he will. Satan will lure you in, much like we do a mouse and he is very good at it.

First he will try to take your focus off of where you are going and change it to another focus. The forms of seduction are so subtle that you may never notice. You may have friends or acquaintances that invite you to met them after work and have a drink. They tell you “what can it hurt to have one drink?” For many, the one drink becomes several drinks and those drinks become a crutch to get from one day to the next. For many, these drinks knock the edge off of work and the next thing they know that single social drink has become an addiction. This is but one example, many others are persuaded by their social or ‘jet set’ buddies to use drugs at after work functions. Instead of seeking God’s assistance with problems in the workplace or at home, many are seduced to escape their problems with a quick high or through intoxication.

Second, the hunter will make the trap appeasing to your eye. We humans are social creatures for the most part and we want to be accepted. We want success and everything that comes with it – especially power. We want to have the right friends, the right clothes, and the right social life. The hunter will dangle these desires for acceptance, success and power. So when the right circle, of friends, asks you to try this or that drug, you think nothing of it. After all, everyone else is doing it. How could it be wrong? Your focus is now changed and your thoughts are upon the drug. You see when a person is addicted to alcohol or drugs, the alcohol or drugs become the person’s whole world. With the alcohol and drugs being the primary focus, these persons have been fully seduced into leaving the path God had for them.

Sometimes the hunter uses the opposite sex to enticement victims towards the trap of seduction. You know that certain someone in the office that seems to understand you better than your spouse. Sometimes the seduction is pride. Self-pride, because a younger peer at work sees you as desirable. Many give into this seduction and the next thing they know, they are involved sexually. The hunter has not only set a trap for those involved in the affair, but has set ticking bomb set to destroy the family of those involved in the affair.

It matters not what the method of seduction is. Once the hunter tempts successfully seduces a person and the person loses focus, then the person will leave the path God has set for them. Do not allow yourself to be drawn from the things God has for you. Seek God’s will for your life and determine how you are going to get where he wants you to be. Seek to grow yourself spiritually, professionally, and personally with Godly resources. There are a multitude of resources that can help you develop spiritually, professionally and personally. Seeking God first will bring you into the light. In God’s light darkness fades to nothing and gives the hunter no place to hunt. If someone tries to persuade you into doing something wrong to get ahead or to be accepted, turn away to the light of Jesus Christ and keep your focus upon him. Don’t get caught in the hunter’s trap, the cheese/bait is never as good as it appears and the ordeal of the trap is not worth it.

1. Take a break from each other - Tell your girlfriend you're taking some time alone (and give her a definite day when you will be done). Keep it to about a week or two at the most, since at this point in the relationship things are probably rocky and you don't want to draw out the pain too long. It is crucial that you not see her or speak to her at all (or as little as possible). The reason you want to be completely away from her is so that your mind and body can clear the emotions which are clouding your reasoning and judgment.
